British Mark I Tank

From The First World War

A 1/35 scale kit from the model kit company Emhar (sp?) that I built straight out of the box. This is a model kit of the very first tank to go into service during the First World War. First produced in 1915 for the British Army, the Mark I had a crew of eight, and the interior was not divided. This meant that the crew had to share the cramped space with the engine, putting up with noxious fumes that often made them sick. The tank was not designed with proper ventilation. There were two Naval six-pounder guns on the sides, along with two Hotchkiss machine guns.

Despite its setbacks, the Mark I was the first in a long line of tanks that would still be serving the world's armies almost a hundred years later.
